Spicy Steak with Sweet Potato Fries



  • 250 gram piece of grass-fed eye fillet steak (per person)
  • Red wine vinegar
  • Real salt and pepper
  • 1/2 a fresh lime
  • Chili powder

Sweet potato fries

  • 1 large orange or purple sweet potato
  • Real pink salt
  • Coconut oil – extra virgin, organic


Marinate steak in all of the other ingredients – for 20 minutes or so is long enough. While that’s brewing, prepare your sweet potato fries. Peel and chop your sweet potato into fry-shaped pieces. Cover them in melted coconut oil – as much as you need. It’s a good fat remember!

Place in a Pyrex baking dish and coat liberally with salt.

Cook at 180 for 20-30 minutes; turning once or twice. If they’re piled on top of each other they will be mushy.

When they are about 5 minutes off, cook your steak in a very hot pan (use coconut oil here as well), for 2-3 minutes on each side. Unless you prefer it well done 🙂

I served with some steamed spinach; a green salad would also be nice!

If you’re going to eat carbs, post weight training is the best time to do so, as your muscles are receptive to insulin letting glucose into them. As you can see in the picture here I got a little carried away with quantity! Usually I would recommend about half a cup of healthy carbs post workout, if you’re choosing to have them.
