Stop Being So Damn Realistic
No filter, okay? This one is just going to be a straight out in your face smackdown of love. I want to let you know that now, before we get into it because you know what? If right now you’re running scared from the life you know you were born for then this is going to hurt.
But here it is –
It is complete and utter bullshit that you can’t live the life that occasionally dances through your mind as a one day fantasy.
Want to know what else?
One of the most infuriating statements I hear more and more lately, since embarking upon this life of endless fun, travel and FREEDOM as a lifestyle entrepreneur is “I’d love to do what you’re doing”. Don’t get me wrong, I love to hear of other people’s big dreams and goals but to be perfectly honest I REALLY only wanna hear it if that statement is followed by some version of “and so I am making it HAPPEN“.
Instead what I hear is “I’d love to do what you’re doing but I have to be realistic”.
Or, “I’d love to one day start my own business but I don’t know where to start”
Or, “I’d love to be able to travel but I have a mortgage … kids in school … a stable income … etc etc etc BLAH!”
And I am just so. damn. SICK of hearing this rubbish.
I know, right? Who am I to judge other people – maybe even you! – by how you live your life? How incredibly insolent of me! You know what though? What might come across as judgement, when we get right down to it, is me feeling the TRUTH of what is really going on behind those words.
And being trapped by the God-damn golden handcuffs handed to you the moment you said yes to the so-called normal life.
The reason I feel that truth? It was my truth for a LONG time.
I told myself that my REALLY big dreams were for the future.
When I was ready.
Had more time.
More money behind me.
And knew what I was doing.
I told myself lie upon lie upon lie to the point where I VERY nearly believed it. But in the end the thing I could NOT escape and that I ALWAYS knew to be true –
The VERY stupidest thing I could ever do was be REALISTIC about what it takes to succeed.
And for as long as I did make my decisions based on realism and doing what ‘makes sense’ I was bound to remain trapped, just over broke, and miserable. Always dreaming of that one day future that was (surely!) only just over the horizon.
Congratulations. Acceptance of where you’re at in terms of the constant BS lies you’re spinning to yourself is an important part of re-capturing your freedom 😉
You remember freedom, right? Perhaps it was 10, 20, heck even 30 or more years ago. Endless Summers, lazy days as a student, maybe you have to go right back to childhood, I don’t know but TELL me you remember freedom?
Exactly what you want to do.
What you want to imprint upon the world.
Or to do nothing at all.
From wherever you like.
With whomever you choose.
All. Day. Long.
Where you get to do what makes you HAPPY. What makes you come ALIVE. What you LONG for in that day after day life of checking things off and paying your dues and climbing the ladder, so that –
How much is the going rate for a lifetime of service these days anyway?
How much does it take to make it worth it that you don’t see your kids grow up, that you sacrifice 60, 70, 80+ hours a week to the Man, that you say yes and bob your head like a bloody pre-programmed lemming into a lifetime of yes yes yes yes I will do what I’m told, follow the rules, be the good girl I’m supposed to be, get ahead, get on top, be recognised, achieve, go further, make more, be the best!
How much? Seriously now, half a million? A million? Ten million?
How much would you take, if you were offered it right now, to live the rest of your life doing what you’re told and delaying the desires and dreams you once upon had for a life less ordinary?
You know what, don’t answer that. Just take a look at whatever it is you’re currently ACCEPTING in exchange because the truth is you’re already GIVING your life.
And that security, that safety net, that acclaimed position or recognition you fought so hard for?
Seriously?! Is THAT what you want your life to be about?
I don’t think so.
I think you can do better than that.
That you know you can.
And that you are, quite simply, running scared.
You’re being REALISTIC about what you should do, what you have to do, what grown ups do. Well, fuck that. If being a grown up and doing the right thing means giving up your God-given right to CHOOSE how you live your life and to live a life of purpose and joy then FUCK THAT.
This is not just me talking. I don’t believe for a SECOND that you think it’s worth it either. But yet, and still, for whatever reason that you just can’t seem to get past, you continue to hold back.
Or a lot.
Or perhaps, if you’re very VERY foolish, forever.
It’s time to stop being so damn realistic.
[pq] If you want to live an extraordinary life COMPLETELY on your terms you’re gonna have to wake up with balls baby. You’re going to have to grow a pair. And then you’re going to have to use them. [/pq]
No, it won’t be easy.
Yes, you might make a fool of yourself.
Possibly even go broke.
But if you WANT it, this life of freedom? Then no matter what happens you pick yourself up again and you jump back into the fray and you go and GET it.
There’s a reason not many people live ‘this life’.
It’s because a) they’re lazy, and b) they’re scared. Usually a mixture. And yeah, if right now you’re not living ‘this life’ meaning the life that YOU want, then I’m talking to you when I say lazy and scared. And hell yeah I’m okay with getting a reaction to this post and to saying that because this is your LIFE. And the fact that you’re wasting it in a way that doesn’t feel good for YOU is unacceptable.
Hey, if you’re totally cool with where you’re at now, in fact you love it and couldn’t ask for more (or less work!) then more power to you and much love. This post is not for you.
But if you are in ANY way not satisfied with your life right now?
You don’t get a second chance.
This is NOT a dress rehearsal.
And now is ALL you have.
So you wake. the fuck. up. And you do what you have to do. You put in the hours after or before work if that’s what it takes to get the ball rolling. You push THROUGH your fears. You start BEFORE you’re ready, before even THAT still. You start NOW. You leap. You do NOT try to look before doing so. You start thinking UNREALISTICALLY about the life you really want, and then you start ACTING unrealistically so that you can make it happen.
You piss people off, so what. It’s your life, not theirs.
You piss yourself off, good. Maybe that will motivate you to actually take action.
One life baby.
And this is it.
You don’t have to listen to me, right? Who knows whether I know what I’m talking about for YOU. But you do. And this playing it safe, colouring in the lines thing you’ve got going on?
It’s either working, or it’s not.
Time to break some rules gorgeous.
If you’re ready to finally say YES to a life that is actually outside the box and ON YOUR TERMS, then now is the time.
You want more, you want it now, and you are DAMN sick of following the rules to get it.
It’s time to step up gorgeous. It’s time to WAKE up. It’s time you stop being SO damn realistic about how business – and life! – should be and you just go out there and MAKE it happen.
You’ve got this.
Life is Now! Press Play.
PS I work with women who know that in order to create the success and the OUTCOMES they desire they need to start from within.
The outcome of focusing on who you need to BE, is typically more money made more easily, in less time, and totally on your terms.
But it DOES have to start from within.
